Mark My Words
This series began during the pandemic lockdown of 2020-2021, as I sheltered in place at the Russian River in Northern California. My satellite studio became my refuge, its own unique kind of artist residency. Using a bamboo pen on handmade paper, I wrote phrases stuck in my head. Concentrating intently on the form of each letter and spacing of each word and focusing on the shapes and interactions of the words-as-image became a form of meditation. In the years following the lockdown, the phrases I selected began to address broader themes. Six images include responses by poet Maw Shein Win. Catalog available.
